Day 9 - The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The MET)

Today is check out day. We woke up around 9:30 and Kevin made breakfast/dinner while I packed everything up. I went over the bill that they had pushed under our door in the middle of the night. They charged us a $25/day fee for a refrigerator we didn't have in our room. 😒

We finally finished and were ready to head down at 12:05 so about 5 min after check out time. Hopefully they didn't ding us for that too. I explained to the front desk lady that we had opted in for a one time fee of $20 to clear the mini bar fridge and she altered the bill. I still need to get a copy of it...

It was pouring this last day but we were prepared. We stored our luggage with the hotel and told them that we would be back at 6 pm to pick it up. We used Juno ($9) to take a private car to The Met. We were not going to get soaked through like that first day. When we arrived the security line was a block long. Its understandable since it was a Saturday and museums are the thing to do on rainy days. It took about 10 min in the rain before we got in. We definitely looked like tourists in our bright yellow ponchos but at least we were dry.

The Met is donation based and they suggest a donation of $25 per person to enter the museum but the teenage girls in front of me gave a quarter a piece to get in. The Met is magnificent. We decided to do the free guided tours because all the english self guided tour equipment was in use and there was an hour wait to get our hands on it. They offer brochures of guided tour times as well as a map of the giant museum. We were there from 1 pm to 5 pm and were able to do two free tours and we hardly got to see every room. You can honestly spend a week in this museum alone.

After, we walked about 8 blocks to Bondurants in the rain for lunch. We were suppose to get brunch here because they have a wonderful brunch but we wanted to use up our groceries and decided to breakfast in our room. The lunch was decent, we were just glad to be out of the rain. After we said our good byes, Kevin and I got in a lyft back to the hotel to pick up our luggage. We took Juno (private car) to the airport and it was significantly cheaper than lyft, Uber, or a taxi. Plus the drivers all seem to be native New Yorkers and if you have seen the driving in New York then you know that you want your driver to be very familiar with the roads. Also we had the car to ourselves!

When we got to the airport we were all ready to go through the JetBlue security but were stopped by women who are paid to actually stand there and size up our bags.... They said our bag was too big. So we found a corner and Kevin did some rearranging and were able to get the bag to fit in their stupid bag outline bin. As soon as we went through security we put everything back to how we had it and had no problem getting it into the overhead compartment. Airlines are SSSSOOOOO ANNOYING.

Plus side there was a cat on our flight, at the end of our row and he made all the bad feelings go away. Side note you can fly with your pet in your lap on JetBlue, probably not good if you are allergic to pets. I am not. 😀

AND WE MADE IT HOME!
